My Title: DO YOU NOT SEE!?

My Verse: 33

33 "But turning and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said, 'Get behind me, Satan! For you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.'"

My Response:

DO NOT BE BLIND! - Jesus feeds 4000+ - Pharisees demand a sign, Jesus sighs heavily in His spirit. - His disciples are worried about not having bread. Jesus says, REALLY!? Don't you remember he 5000 and the 4000... just NOW!?" - He is asking all of them DO YOU SEE? - Then He HEALS a blind man. His spit doesn't heal him right away. He can see people but they look like trees. (Which means he hasn't always been blind) Jesus places His hands on Him and then He can see clearly. - Peter confesses that he believes Jesus to be the Christ.

The Pharisees are blind, but they haven't always been. God's people used to know and walk with God very closely. His disciples, these Jewish fishermen, were beginning to see but they couldn't see clearly. At some point, Jesus has to go from just being a man into being God in human form. "He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power." - Hebrews 1:3

Immediately (see what I did there Mark?) after His identity is revealed He reveals His purpose for coming to earth. He MUST suffer many things, be rejected the elders, chief priests and scribes (those that were supposed to be looking for Him, and then killed! - Jesus was FOCUSED on the things of God and NOT the things of man. He was on mission.

If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. - If you KNOW WHO He is, you will follow Him.

How Will This Make You a Better Husband/Father/Man:

Pick up your cross and FOLLOW Him. Not lead. Not ask for favor from. Not seek counsel in times of need. Just follow. God is not only God, but a shepherd, a good Father, a friend. Your Savior. LOOK to SEE where He is at work, and then join Him. Ask what you can do to be apart of HIS work. When He speaks, GO, DO, BE what He asks you to do even though it will always be far beyond what YOU can accomplish and then watch as He works in and through you to accomplish HIS will. - There IS A DAY COMING when He WILL COME in the glory of His Father with the holy angels and in that day you will want Him NOT TO BE ASHAMED of you.

My Notes:

  • Jesus has compassion on the large crowd following Him. He wants to use His disciples to feed them. His disciples (who have already witnessed Him feed 5000+ people) ask "HOW can one feed these people with bread here in this desolate place?"

  • I can't mock them. This is me. Just about every time God wants to do something WITH me. He says, "Hey, I want to do something here." I immediately complain about how He hasn't given me ANYTHING the job requires NOR is it the RIGHT place... usually some place desolate. - Ugh, how frustrating I must be for the Lord. (I hate to admit it, but this was literally my prayer time before starting my reading this morning. - God you are too good to me.)

  • They feed over 4000 people.

  • Immediately they get in a boat and head to another district.

  • Pharisees try to argue a sign out of Jesus. He sighs DEEPLY in His spirit.

  • Jesus is with His disciples and they are discussing with one another about having forgotten bread for them all to eat. WHAT!? - Jesus asks them "Seriously? Do you have hard hearts or something? Do you not remember the 12 baskets left over from the FIVE THOUSAND?! Or the 7 baskets from the FOUR THOUSAND?! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?! - Jesus is trying to tell them, "I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE."

  • Jesus reveals WHO He is and then WHAT He is here to do. He was on mission. He followed His Father at great expense. Now to follow Him you must pick up YOUR cross and follow Him... no matter the cost.
