My Title: What do YOU Beg of Jesus?

My Verse: 19

19 "And He did not permit him but said to him, 'Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.'"

My Response:

Jesus knew that He would be rejected by the town across the sea but He went anyway. Which means He went JUST to save the ONE.

The demons begged. Jesus did the will of His Father.

The people of the town begged. Jesus honored their request.

The man healed begged. Jesus denied his request... He wanted to stay with Jesus for protection in case the demons tried to return. Jesus tells him to stay because THAT TOWN NEEDED A WITNESS. We crave safety and comfort for ourselves but God wants for us that which will make us warriors and witnesses for His kingdom. He wants a REAL LIFE for us. Free and empowered. Not of fear and hiding.

How Will This Make You a Better Husband/Father/Man:

Teach your kids to be warriors for His kingdom. This life is purposed to make us more like Christ. It's not about our story here. It's NOT ABOUT our comfort, happiness or plans for THIS world. Our hope, our joy, our peace comes from KNOWING that the STORY THAT MATTERS is the one that God's always been telling. Jesus. AND ONE DAY WE WILL SEE THAT STORY FULFILLED IN A DAY THAT HAS NO END, WITH NO CRYING AND NO PAIN AND NO MORE SIN!!!

My Notes:

  • Do you feel like you've got a problem in your life that is impossible to be controlled? - This man was possessed by a demon and could no be restrained... not even by a chain.

  • The demon is actually demons. "We are legion for we are many." - Then they beg Jesus, BY GOD, not to torment them or be cast out of the country. So Jesus casts them into about two thousand pigs that then go and drowned themselves.

  • Jesus has authority.

  • The authority comes from His Father.

  • Is he showing the demons compassion? - Jews were not to keep swine according to Levitical law... Jesus removes an illegal trade here and removes the demons. - Also, in Luke we see that these demons didn't want to be sent to the abyss... even demons don't want to go to hell. They know that's where they will end up but it's not the time yet. Jesus free's this man and removes an illegal trade. Two birds, one stone.

  • Fear will either draw you closer to Jesus or cause you to drive Him away.

  • This town sees that Jesus has the power to change things. He can heal but He will also correct and clean-house. If Jesus were to stay, their life would be uncomfortable. They had just lost their livelihood, what else might He take? - They weren't just afraid OF Him, they were afraid of what else He might do.

  • The demons begged Jesus not to be throne into the abyss. Jesus did His Father's will.

  • The town begged Jesus to leave. Jesus honored their request. - It's not like He didn't know they weren't going to accept Him... which means He went there JUST to FREE the ONE.

  • The man who had been possessed begged Jesus that He might stay with Him. Jesus denied Him the comfort and safety of staying near Him so the demons would not return... BECAUSE THAT TOWN NEEDED A WITNESS. - We desire for ourselves comfort and safety but God desires what will make us warriors and witnesses for His kingdom. < It will be cool to heat the rest of this man's story in heaven one day.
