My Title: The God of the LIVING
My Verse: 26-27
"26 And as for the dead being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the passage about the bush, how God spoke to him, saying, 'I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? 27 He is not God of the dead, but of the living. You are quite wrong."
What does your actions SAY about WHAT YOU BELIEVE about God? The religious leaders constantly tried to trap Jesus because they didn't like Him breaking down and taking away their power and recognition. Their spirituality gained them a lot of notoriety. - We still do this today. A lot. -
BUT if you KNOW God and KNOW His story it will always lead you to the conclusion that God cares about one thing. That you love Him BACK with all your heart, soul and might. Because if you do that you'll also care about what He cares about... which is loving your neighbor as if you were loving yourself. LOVE.
God is NOT the God of the dead. Our view of life suffers from short sightedness. We struggle to see beyond 100 years because that's all that we can see and tangibly touch, but God created us for eternity. All the things we can gain through selfish behavior for the here and now are all a lie meant to distract us from what's REALLY important. God and His eternal plan. It's the only thing that matters.
How Will This Make You a Better Husband/Father/Man:
Teach your kids to KNOW God, His character and HOW to find it in His Word. Also, teach them to KNOW His story. - If you teach them these to things it will lead you to the same conclusion every time. The most important thing to learn in life is that GOD IS ONE and to love Him with all your heart, soul and might. If you DO that, you will NATURALLY love your neighbor as yourself. They go hand in hand.
He will come and destroy the tenants and give the vineyard to others. - The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone, this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous inn our eyes.
How many times does God have to answer your selfish heart's cries that HIS WAYS are not just better than yours... they're MARVELOUS!
When power is your motivation, fear of the mob is what controls you.
Jesus KNOWS they are trying to trap them and engages with teaching them anyway. That's cool.
Sadducees think they're clever. - You neither know the Scriptures nor the power of God.
God is NOT the God of the dead... but of the LIVING. Thank you Lord!
The GREAT COMMANDMENT: THE LORD IS ONE. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. - The second is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is NO other commandment greater than these.
KNOW the scripture and KNOW God. It will lead you to THIS conclusion.
WORD TO THE WISE: BEWARE of those who LIKE walking around in long robes and like greetings in the marketplaces and have the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows' houses and for a pretense make LONG PRAYERS. They will receive the GREATER CONDEMNATION.
The widow gave ALL she had out of her poverty. Everything she had to live on. Her trust and faith was in the God that could and would provide for her... were everyone else felt like they were doing God a favor.
