My Title: The Kingdom is NOT What We Would Suppose

My Verse: 43 - 44

43 "But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many."

My Response:

The kingdom is not what we would suppose. For some reason we think heaven is going to be all about me me me. Everything here is broken and upside down. Even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve. < Think about that. - We squabble and fight for what's ours in this life. We look for loop holes in God's laws to justify our own sin. We think we deserve the important roles in Jesus' kingdom. This life becomes a WHOLE lot clearer when we see it through Jesus' eyes.

Do YOU KNOW WHO Jesus IS? The blind man was the only one that could truly SEE Him. The more you have invested in this life the harder it will be to give it up to gain the eternal life. < Don't invest here.

How Will This Make You a Better Husband/Father/Man:

The best thing you can do for your family is to teach them the true purpose and intention of this life. This life is temporary. Teach them this by living as if God is the greatest love of your life. Live as though you KNOW He is the Son of David. The promised Messiah.

My Notes:

  • If you're about your Father's (you've been adopted through the blood of Christ) business, then you're going to be opposed and hated.

  • Moses allowed the people to write a certificate of divorce because of their hardness of heart... Jesus is pointing out that this is a loop hole that exposes their selfish heart problem.

  • From the beginning God intended His creation to be joined together as one flesh... that's WHY He created them male and female. He INTENDED to show Himself off in their miracle union.

  • THEY ARE NO LONGER TWO BUT ONE FLESH!!! < THINK about that for a second.

  • What GOD has joined together, let man not separate.

  • Adultery is a bigger deal than our culture would like you to believe it is.

  • Jesus says, LET THE CHILDREN come to me.

  • Jesus says, DO NOT hinder them, "Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." < A child understand and easily receives a FREE gift.

---

  • The rich young man was eager to earn the saving grace of Jesus. He RAN to Him.

  • WHY do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. < He is saying, "Do you KNOW who I AM?"

  • Jesus, looking at him, LOVED HIM, and said to him...

  • Jesus KNEW how to cut to the core. Straight to the heart, but NOT out of spite or anger... it was always in love.

  • How difficult it will be for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! < Those that have a lot in this world will have a hard time taking their eyes off of the present to look to an invisible future.

  • No one who has left their worldly possessions to invest in the kingdom of heaven will be forgotten. They will be rewarded 100 fold. - There are MANY in this life that are first that will be last in the forever and many that have given everything to chose to be last in this life but earn the first in the kingdom of forever.

---

  • Following Jesus is amazing, but can also be fearful. lol. Our human hearts NEED to see Him for WHO He truly IS to be calmed.

  • So Jesus remind them. He calls His shot. We are going to Jerusalem. Where the Son of Man WILL be delivered over... WILL be condemned... WILL mock/KILL Him. AND after three days He WILL rise.

  • Thank you Jesus.

---

  • The Kingdom is NOT what we suppose.

  • The disciples are fighting over who will be seated in the seats of honor next to Jesus in His kingdom but Jesus points out to them that their selfish hearts are looking at it incorrectly. < Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all.

  • The blind man was rebuked by all those around him as he cried out for help from Jesus. He was BLIND but he was the ONLY ONE who could TRULY SEE WHO JESUS WAS... that's why He was crying out, calling Him the SON of David. He knew the prophecies about the Messiah and was addressing Jesus as the one that would come to save mankind.
