My Title: GRACE & TRUTH. For all, at all cost.

My Verse: 19-20

"For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of the His cross."

My Response:

Paul was clear about his calling to clearly present the pure gospel of both grace and truth to the gentiles. He was even willing to suffer for it, understanding that his suffering and toiling was for the church on behalf of Christ. In fact it was Christ who powerfully worked within him to provide him with the energy to continue on in ministry. - The unhindered gospel of GRACE AND TRUTH is for all, at all cost. Live like your last day is today.

My Notes:

  • Vs 1-2: This letter is being written by Paul and Timothy to the faithful brothers in Colossae.

  • Vs 3-4: BECAUSE of the HOPE laid up for you in heaven (we heard of your faith and love)

  • Vs 5: Fruit has been increasing since the day you HEARD and UNDERSTOOD the GRACE of God in TRUTH.

  • Vs 9: Since we heard - we have not ceased to PRAY for you! Asking...

  1. Filled with knowledge of HIS will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding

  2. SO as to walk in manner worthy of the Lord, FULLY pleasing to Him,

  3. bearing FRUIT in every good work

  4. increasing in the knowledge of God.

  5. May you be STRENGTHENED with ALL POWER according to HIS glorious might,

  6. for ALL ENDURANCE and PATIENCE with JOY,

  7. giving THANKS to the Father, WHO HAS QUALIFIED YOU to SHARE in the INHERITANCE of the saints in light.

  8. HE has DELIVERED us from the domain of darkness and TRANSFERRED us to the KINGDOM of HIS BELOVED SON, IN WHOM WE HAVE REDEMPTION, the FORGIVENESS of SINS.

  • Vs 15-17: CHRIST is the image of the invisible God! - BY Him ALL things were created. EVERYTHING was created through Him and FOR Him. He is the firstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent.

  • Vs 19: For in HIM the FULLNESS of God was PLEASED to dwell.

  • Vs 20-21: He RECONCILED ALL THINGS to HIMSELF by MAKING PEACE with GOD BY THE BLOOD of HIS CROSS.

  • Vs 22: By His death He has reconciled YOU. He died in order to present YOU HOLY and BLAMELESS and ABOVE REPROACH before HIM.

  • Vs 23: Not gonna lie. I've got a BIG problem with this "IF" - the only way I can square with this in context of God's entire gospel is that IF you truly believe BOTH GRACE AND TRUTH and don't believe in a variation of that message. - Once you understand that you are a wretched sinner in need of a savior because you cannot save yourself, and that Christ died to pay the full penalty for your sins to present you as HOLY... if you can STRAY from that, did you every really believe what you claimed to understand? - To suggest that we hold ourselves in Christ's grace by not questioning or stumbling due to pride or our own works is suggesting the very thing he is confronting. We cannot save ourselves nor can we add to our salvation BUT we can be held accountable for our hearing and understanding (vs 6) - A gospel and ministry we are called to if we understand it! (2 Cor. 5 17-18)

  • Vs 24: Paul rejoices in his suffering. (He is filling what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of His body, the church)

  • Vs 26-27: The mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed... CHRIST IN YOU, THE HOPE OF GLORY for all and how much greater joy this hope for gentiles like me!

  • FOR THIS I TOIL - HIM we proclaim. Warning everyone. Teaching everyone. WITH ALL WISDOM. - STRUGGLING with all HIS energy that HE POWERFULLY works within me.
