My Title: FLEE From Idolatry

My Verse: 12-13

"12 Therefore let anyone who things that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

My Response:

"So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." - This will keep you on the RIGHT path because to do this your actions must be selfless! To act in the interest of God you have to first put down your own.

There will be plenty of things that call your attention away from God and even worse call your hearts affection away from God. Be careful not to make an idol out of anything... even your own legalism! Let anyone who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall!

Don't seek your own good but the good of your neighbor. Or your wife and children! Do not seek your own advantage, but that of many that they may be saved.

How Will This Make You a Better Husband/Father:

All things are lawful, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful but not all things build up. - Your goal, your aim, should always be to move forward in Christ. It is a difficult thing to lay down what your heart and flesh begs of you, especially when you can fit it into a "technically it not a sin" when your focus should be "does this pull me closer to Christ, does this make me more like Him?"

Remember that struggling with your conscience isn't always the goal either! You are leading your wife and your kids. You don't want to set an example the causes them to struggle either!

My Notes:

  • God is the same today as He was when He was leading His people through the wilderness by cloud and fire and when He lead them through the sea.

  • For some reason our hearts desire evil. "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play." <-- You need to guard your heart and mind.

  • 23,000 fell in one day on account of sexual immorality.

  • We must not put Christ to the test. Christ offers redemption. Look upon Him for grace and mercy.

  • Flee from idolatry.

  • The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not participation in the body of Christ? BECAUSE there is one bread, we who are many are one body.

  • You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.

  • Don't provoke the Lord to jealousy.

  • Everything is "lawful" but not everything is helpful or build up.

  • It may not be a struggle with your conscience... it could be a fight for the person who looks up to you or to you for guidance. You don't want to cause them to struggle.

  • "So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God."

  • This will keep you on the right path because to do this your actions must be selfless!
